In Senior English we analyze and discuss world literature with an emphasis on British literature. Chronological periods of literature to be covered include the Anglo/Saxon Period, the Medieval Period, the Renaissance, the Age of Restoration, The Romantic Period, the Victorian Period, and the Modern Era.
Genres that will be read and analyzed include the epic, poetry, short story, non-fiction articles, and drama. Works will be read and analyzed, such as Beowulf, a Time article on heroes,The Canterbury Tales, Macbeth, Hamlet, Gulliver's Travels, Songs of Innocence, Frankenstein, articles on cloning, Hard Times, The importance of Being Earnest, All Quiet on the Western Front, and 1984.
Senior students will learn to develop thesis statements and write essays. Areas of focus will include wriitng in different modes including narrative, expository, and argumentative.
Materials that are needed for the class include a ringed binder, dividers for your notebook
with the following labels: Literature, Writing, and Grammar/Usage, loose-leaf paper--- use for
daily work--please no spiral notebooks, pens---blue or black ink for assignments/red or green for grading and editing, and a jump drive to store assignments from computer lab and take home.
